Fo-ti, or Polygonum multiflorum, is an herb with a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine. It's sometimes also called He Shou Wu, or "Mr. He's Black Hair," after a folk tale of an old man who stayed behind in his village when all his neighbors had left during a famine. He survived by eating fo-ti, and when the other villagers returned they found that his gray hair had changed to black, and he had regained his youthful vigor.
Fo-ti contains emodin, chrysophanic acid, chrysophanol, quinones, anthraquinones, and stilbenes.
This herb is cured traditionally in black bean juice and wine, and powdered. It can be brewed in tea, taken orally or mixed into a shake. A dose can be anywhere between 1-10 grams, or 0.5-2 tsp. Higher doses may produce a laxative effect, so start small and work your way up carefully.
Caution: Do not use this product if you have any history of liver or kidney disease. If you experience any side effects reduce your dose or discontinue use.
