Gotu kola, or Centella asiatica, is one of the most well known of the Ayurvedic herbs. It belongs to a group of herbs in Ayurveda known as the medhya rasayanas, which are prized for their ability to enhance the intellect and spirit. It is frequently combined with bacopa and the two are extremely similar and complementary.
Gotu kola contains asiaticoside, centelloside, madecassoside, asiatic acid, triterpenoid saponins, flavonoids, and flavones.
Gotu kola works best steeped in tea, and a dose seems to be between 1-5 grams. It synergizes especially well with other cognition-promoting or anti-anxiety herbs.
