Skullcap is an herb in the mint family considered a staple in many herbal traditions. Skullcap was often used by early American herbalists, and Chinese skullcap is one of the 50 fundamental herbs in TCM. There are a number of different species of skullcap but they all contain many of the same active components.
Skullcap contains wogonin, baicalein, baicalin, and scutellarin.
Skullcap is most often brewed in tea, though it is sometimes included in smoke/incense blends as well. When used in tea a good starting dose is about 1-2 tsp. It works well with other herbs and makes an excellent addition to tea blends.
